How to Clean Your Jewelry...and other Helpful tips

Hi Bella's Yard family,

Thank you for being a part of our amazing community and supporting our small family business! We want to offer you some tips on keeping your jewelry looking like the day you received it:

Tip #1-Protect Your Jewelry

Damp, humid and warm conditions as well as perspiring create jewelry erosion, which is why it's best to avoid wearing jewelry in the bath/shower or while swimming or exercising. Similarly, makeup, lotions, hairspray, perfume and household chemicals can speed up the tarnishing process.

*A good rule to keep in mind is to make your bracelet the last thing you put on in the morning and the first thing you take off in the evening.

Tip #2-Storing Your Jewelry

To minimize scratches and other damage, lay it flat in an airtight jewelry box. I will show you a tip, below, for keeping your necklaces from getting tangled in your jewelry box.

Now for the part you've been waiting for...

 How to Clean Your Jewelry

You will want to determine first, whether your piece of jewelry is Platinum plated or fully Stainless Steel/Sterling Silver.

Supplies needed for Platinum plated: Soft Microfiber cloth

Supplies needed for fully Stainless Steel or Sterling Silver: Dish of soapy water, soft microfiber cloth and a soft brush (it's important not to use a brush with stiff bristles as this will scratch)

For Platinum plated:

Plated jewelry should be gently wiped with a clean cloth to maintain its surface coating. Aggressive polishing, silver polishing liquids and ultrasonic cleaning will damage plated jewelry, and contact with abrasive or rough surfaces should be avoided. It is normal for plating to wear away over time but you can keep it nice for a long time if you take care of it.

If you need a deeper clean on your Platinum plated bracelet: You can use a damp (water only) microfiber cloth and thoroughly dry immediately.

Do not buff lettering on charms as this can cause damage and scratching.

For fully Stainless Steel or Sterling Silver:

One of the safest and easiest ways to clean most Stainless Steel jewelry is with mild liquid soap and lukewarm water, using a soft brush to gently get into the crevices and details.

First, dip a microfiber cloth into you soapy water and gently wipe over the smooth edges of all the pendant. You will see it instantly shine a little brighter.

Then, you can go in with your soft brush and get into the little nooks and crevices to clean off soap buildup or any residue that has made its way in there.

Now, you're ready to give your jewelry a rinse and dry each piece completely with the dry end of your microfiber cloth. Voila! Your jewelry looks brand new!

If you need a deep clean on your Stainless Steel bracelet: You can pop your bracelet into the soapy water for 10 minutes and then proceed with the steps above.

One complaint we hear, from time to time, is that necklaces get tangled and are impossible to get apart so we want to offer you a video to help you with that. Your necklace chains will never get tangled up again!
